Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred
• ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) is a plus

Facility & Department Information

• Critical access hospital in northwest Wisconsin
• Emergency Room with 12 beds and 2 trauma rooms
• Trauma Level 4 (not STEMI or Stroke center)
• Fast Track available
• Separate triage area (travelers preferred to be trained in triage)
• Behavioral health ligature safe room available
• Security in-house at night and on weekends
• Approximately 15,500 ER visits per year (~40 patients/day)
• Nurse/Patient Ratios:

  • 11pm-8am: 2 RNs
  • 8am-8pm and 11am-11pm: Additional RN coverage

Patient Care & Support

• Common diagnoses and patient types are variable
• Common drips are variable
• ED Physician coverage 24/7 in-house
• Mid-level providers available during peak times
• House Supervisor always present (not required to take assignments)
• Patient care techs available
• Respiratory Therapist (RT) not 24/7; called in as needed
• No monitor techs; Mindray monitors used
• X-Ray and CT available adjacent to ER
• Both phlebotomy and RNs draw labs

Scheduling & Work Environment

• 12-hour shifts, no self-scheduling
• Potential for block scheduling upon request
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Rotating holiday shifts
• No call or standby requirements
• No floating requirements for ER travelers
• Dress code: Charcoal/pewter gray scrubs, any style
• Orientation tailored to individual
