Travel RN Opportunity - CVICU Unit
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Facility Overview
- Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Facility: Large hospital with a broad range of specialties including cardiology, cancer care, emergency medicine, neurosciences, maternity care, gynecology, and orthopedics
- Documentation System: Meditech
- Shift Options: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
- Weekend Schedule: Rotating
- Call Requirements: None
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week
- Floating: All travelers are required to float within the hospital
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - CVICU
- Minimum ICU Experience: 2 years (highest required years of experience)
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Certification (required)
- Licensure: Active Texas RN License (temporary license accepted)
- Required Skills:
- Hemodynamic monitoring (Swan-Ganz catheters, arterial lines)
- Ventilator management
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to:
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Experience with Meditech charting and order entry preferred
Procedures Commonly Performed on Unit
- Post Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) care
- Post Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) care
- Post cardiac catheterization with support devices such as IABP, Impella, ECMO
Dress Code & Appearance Guidelines
- Scrubs: Navy scrub top and pants; navy or white scrub jacket
- Nails: Clean and healthy
- Hair: Neat, clean, no extreme styles or colors
- Facial Hair: Clean and neatly trimmed beards, mustaches, and sideburns
- Tattoos: Should be covered whenever possible; uncovered tattoos addressed individually
- Piercings: Only ear piercings allowed; all other visible piercings prohibited
Additional Unit Policies
- Must badge in and out for each shift
- Full 30-minute lunch break required
- Punctuality is strictly enforced (clock-in by 6:38 AM/PM; after 6:45 considered tardy)
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with strong critical care skills looking for a travel assignment in a well-established hospital with a supportive environment and a variety of advanced cardiac care procedures.
