Travel RN Opportunity - NICU, Houston, Texas

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Location: Houston, Texas
  • Employment Type: Travel
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

  • Unit: NICU (Level 2, 3, and 4 beds)
  • Number of Beds: 146 total (64 Level 3 & 4, 82 Level 2)
  • Staffing:
    • Day Shift: 2 charge nurses, variable number of nurses based on census and acuity, clerk, nurse tech in Level 2
    • Night Shift: Similar staffing as day shift
  • Patient Ratios: Vary by acuity (1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4)
  • Equipment: All NICU equipment
  • EMR Systems: Meditech & CPN

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of NICU experience (higher requirement between 1 and 2 years applied)
  • Skills:
    • Infant assessment
    • IV management
    • Respiratory support management
  • Certifications:
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Licenses: Registered Nurse License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Level 4 NICU experience
  • Experience with HCA Healthcare system

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Lumbar puncture (LP)
  • Central line placement
  • Circumcision
  • Eye exams

Work Schedule & Policies

  • Minimum of 4 weekend shifts and 2 Monday/Friday shifts per 4-week schedule
  • Holidays scheduled per unit guidelines
  • Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs
  • Unit Policy: Bare below the elbows including “naked nails”

Additional Information

  • Floating Areas: All NICU areas, General Nursery, Pediatrics with infant assignment
  • Desired Personality Traits: Strong communication skills, team player, focus on parent satisfaction and patient safety
