Registered Nurse (Critical Care Float Pool) - Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Weekend Nights, 3x12 hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 36 hours/week
Schedule: Weekend nights Friday/Saturday plus one additional night during the week
Job Description
Join the Critical Care Float Pool covering weekend night shifts with flexibility to float across various ICUs based on staffing and patient acuity, including:
- Neuro ICU
- Surgical ICUs
- Medical ICUs (MICU x2)
- Cardiology/Diagnostics
- CVICU
- SICU / MICU / NCCU
Float Policy:
Nurses must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity.
Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Critical Care / ICU
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (highest required)
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Skills:
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system
- IV start
- Telemetry
- Ventilator management experience
- Prior Travel Experience: Strongly preferred (not explicitly required, but highly recommended)
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS, BLS, NIH Stroke Certification (required for most ICU units)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exams
- State nursing license verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for licensure
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (annual)
Health & Background Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
- References: 2 professional references required, including at least 1 from a manager or formal leadership
Additional Notes
- Candidates must comply with facility-specific policies including dress code, hand hygiene, ethics and compliance policies, and fraud/waste/abuse training.
- Background and fingerprinting results must be clear prior to start; pending fingerprint attestations allowed under specific conditions.
- Candidates should be prepared to float across multiple ICU units and demonstrate flexibility.
- Prior travel nursing experience is strongly preferred but not mandatory.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic critical care environment with varied ICU exposure during weekend night shifts.
