Job Opportunity: CICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Specialty: Registered Nurse - Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Days, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 1-2 patients
- On-call: May be placed on call for low census, but no additional call shifts required
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (approximately 12 shifts during contract)
- Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including sister units/facilities
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
- Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
- Preferred Equipment Experience: CRRT - Prismax
Work Environment & Facility Information
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital
- Charting System: Epic
- Parking: Free parking available with a parking pass; garages accommodate average SUV/truck
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time
Scheduling & Hours
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Must include SSN Trace, county checks outside SC, SC statewide, sex offender registry, national criminal, FACIS 3
- Background check must be run within 90 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; SC RN license must be active, unencumbered, and no pending actions
- NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references required, including at least one from the same unit
- Work History Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified; attestation letters accepted only if other verification methods exhausted
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style color photo with solid light background, frontal view, cropped from shoulders up
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Must be completed within 90 days of start, updated annually, confirming ability to meet physical demands without restrictions
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- TB Testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start; if positive history, chest x-ray required
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
- Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required via RespSafety virtual questionnaire
Competency & Training
- Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology and other competency exams as applicable
- Orientation: Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approx. 2-6 hours depending on location) required before start
- Safety & Confidentiality: Completion of safety manual acknowledgement, confidentiality, and security agreements prior to start
Additional Notes
- Radiation Badge: Not required for this position
- Floating: May be required to float to like units or sister facilities within scope
- First Day Instructions: Sent after client clearance; all required modules must be completed before orientation or traveler will be sent home
- Local Candidates: Accepted on a case-by-case basis
