Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Included in shift schedule
- Holidays: As needed, no on-call required
- Floating: May be required to float between Midlands DT and NE campuses within scope due to census or staffing needs
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital
- Total Staffed Beds: 75
- Charting System: Epic
- Scrub Color: ER – Royal Blue
- Parking: Free with pass
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Years of ER Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- License: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be in hand prior to start
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA only)
- PALS (AHA only, required for ER only)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER)
- Epic experience required
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Approval for block scheduling can be requested but is not guaranteed
- Local candidates accepted within 60-mile radius
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Background Checks
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Must include: SSN Trace, Counties outside SC, SC Statewide, Sex Offender Registry, National Criminal, OFAC, FACIS 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
Education & Licensure Verification
- Primary source verification of active, unencumbered SC RN license or Compact license
- NURSYS verification required
- Copy of diploma or transcripts preferred as placeholder if education verification is pending
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 90 days of start, updated annually, confirming ability to work without restrictions
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; low titers require boosters
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
- COVID vaccines highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
Additional Health Requirements
- Respirator medical clearance annually via RespSafety questionnaire
- Fit test done onsite during orientation (no need to provide prior fit test)
Competency & Skills
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
- Annual skills checklist for applicable unit
- References: Minimum 2 clinical references, including at least one from the unit to be worked in
- Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers required
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2-6 hours depending on campus)
- Upload COVID and flu vaccination documentation into OurDay platform
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge required (frontal view, solid light background)
- Completion of facility-specific confidentiality, security, contractor forms, and job description prior to start
- Time-sensitive NetID form must be completed within 24-48 hours of signing contract
Important Notes
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require assignment to emergency response teams; consider this before accepting new or extended assignments during this period
- Facility allows floating between campuses as needed
- Candidates must renew certifications if expiring within 30 days of start or have scheduled renewal courses
This position is suitable for ER nurses with at least 2 years of experience, who hold the appropriate licensure and certifications, and are comfortable working night shifts with potential floating between campuses.
