Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Fishersville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Day shift
  • Schedule: Every other weekend (EOW) plus 2 weekday shifts every two weeks based on staffing needs
  • Holiday Rotation: Required to work holidays in rotation (if 1 holiday in assignment, work it; if 2 holidays, work 1; if 3 holidays, work 2)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:6
  • Unit: 2 West – Medical Innovation Unit (32-bed medical/surgical unit focused on new technologies and innovative nursing practices)
  • First-time travelers accepted: Yes
  • Locals accepted: No (local radius rule: 50 miles)
  • Pending License: Not accepted

Experience & Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: 2 years in specialty (Registered Nurse)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
  • Additional Recommended/Unit-Specific Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for certain units (ED/ER, ICU, PCU, etc.)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for Peds, ER/ED, PACU
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – Required for OB, LDRP, NICU, Nursery
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Check unit-specific requirements
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – Required for Psych, recommended for ED
    • NIH Stroke Certification – Required for ICU, PCU, ED, Float Pool (annual update)
  • Licensure: Valid Virginia or Compact State License required (pending licenses not accepted)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
    • HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
    • Virginia State Police Background Check performed by facility
  • Fingerprinting: Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check results required (effective 7/15/2025)
  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, renewed annually
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (includes marijuana; zero tolerance policy)
  • Immunizations & Health Documents:
    • Tdap vaccine within past 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire updated annually
    • MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B – Positive titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • Fit Mask Testing: Annual fit test required (3M N95 preferred); onsite testing available
  • References: 2 professional references required
  • Employment Application/Resume: Current and required
  • Skills Checklist: Required and updated annually

Additional Notes

  • Must adhere to facility policies including standards of appearance, confidentiality, social media, dress code, masking, and compliance acknowledgments.
  • Candidates must complete various facility-specific documents and acknowledgments prior to start.
  • Orientation and competency exams required as applicable.
  • RTO (Request Time Off) policy requires holiday work as outlined above and must be included in submission and confirmation documents.
