Registered Nurse (MSDU RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 4x12 hour night shifts
- Weekend: Every other weekend
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in MedSurg (Medical-Surgical)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
- Local Radius Requirement: Must live within 75 miles
Specialty Requirements
- Must have a New York RN license in hand (no exceptions)
- Ability to manage a patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:7 on MedSurg unit
- Experience with arterial lines or vasopressor titration required
- Must have EPIC charting experience
- BLS certification required
- Additional certifications as required by unit (ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) may be necessary
Clinical Skills & Competencies
- Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
- Peripheral line care and management
- Respiratory Care:
- Nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
- Non-invasive airway management (e.g., BIPAP support)
- Professional Skills:
- Isolation precautions
- Care for adult acute care patients requiring specialized care beyond general MedSurg
- Experience with continuous pulse oximetry and telemetry monitoring
- Care for patients with arterial lines, central lines, and titrated medicated IV infusions
Unit Description
- Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) - critical care step-down unit
- 26 beds
- Patient population includes transfers from ED, PACU, ICU, and MedSurg floors
- Provides evidence-based, multidisciplinary care
Required Certifications & Documents
- Licenses: NY RN license (primary source verification within 30 days of start)
- Certifications:
- BLS (AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted)
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM as required by unit
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check (felony checks) within 3 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
- Education Verification: Required from primary source; foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
- Health Requirements: Must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing, including:
- Physical exam (within 1 year)
- Fit mask test (annual)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year
- COVID vaccination preferred but not required
Additional Requirements
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge
- Completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as required by profession
- Skills checklist required annually
- Work history verification (minimum 2 past employments)
- References required for agency direct hires (2 references within 3 years)
