Job Opportunity: SICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Facility Type: Acute Care, Level 1 Trauma, Teaching Hospital
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: SICU Registered Nurse
• Required Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years (Manager prefers 4 years)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
• License Requirement: Must have a valid DC nursing license in hand (no pending licenses accepted)
• COVID-19 Vaccination: Fully vaccinated required (no medical or religious exemptions accepted)
• Work Schedule:

  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week
  • No on-call required
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs
  • Open to block scheduling based on unit needs
• Patient Ratios: 1:2

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Certification (required for ICU/SICU)

Additional preferred or unit-specific certifications may include:

• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – preferred but not required
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – required for ED staff

Certifications must be current and not expire within 30 days of start date.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Proof of I9 or Attestation
• Government issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
• E-Verify or Attestation
• Background Check: 7-year criminal history, nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, education verification
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Education verification through primary source (transcripts/diplomas not accepted as sole proof)
• NURSYS verification for RN license
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
• Signed HIPAA acknowledgment or Core testing for subcontractors
• Facility-specific forms including new hire and security statements

Health & Safety Requirements

• Initial and annual Physical Exam attesting ability to meet job demands (facility-specific form required)
• Fit Mask testing within one year, updated annually
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination form
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year, updated annually
• Required immunizations or titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (vaccine, titer, or declination form)
  • Varicella
• 9-panel Drug Screen within last 12 months (instant acceptable)
• Hepatitis C titer required for Dialysis RNs (not specified for SICU)
• Seasonal Flu Vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted with facility approval)
• COVID-19 full vaccination required (no exemptions accepted)

• Charting system: Cerner Sorian 1st Generation
• Parking: Employee responsible for parking costs; public transportation accessible (Metro Shaw/Howard University station)
• Locals accepted for this travel/contract position
• First-time travel nurses accepted

This position is ideal for experienced SICU RNs who hold a DC license, meet vaccination requirements, and are comfortable with a rotating weekend/holiday schedule in a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital environment.
