Nursing Contract Opportunity
Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Summary
Provides professional nursing care in the Emergency Department based on Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards. Care is provided across the lifespan from neonate to geriatric patients. The role includes scheduled on-call assignments as needed due to fluctuating patient volumes.
Required Qualifications
- Current Pennsylvania RN licensure
- American Heart Association certifications (must be current and renewed every two years):
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Preference given to candidates with EPIC Computer Charting experience
Experience
- Specialty: Nursing (Emergency Department)
- Required years of experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum experience consistent with emergency nursing standards

Key Responsibilities
- Triage patients entering the emergency care system and prioritize care based on physical and psychosocial needs
- Perform hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room when patients are waiting
- Document detailed nursing history including chief complaint and health status
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care, ensuring availability and functionality of supplies and equipment
- Continuously update care plans based on patient and family needs, including discharge planning and education
- Manage complications and emergencies according to policies and ENA standards
- Recognize changes in patient health status and direct appropriate care to ensure safety
- Document patient responses to interventions to support competent medical care
- Provide health education to patients and families, including treatment explanations and discharge instructions
Skills and Abilities
- Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to function effectively as a team member and liaison between patients and staff
- Demonstrates tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and professionalism when interacting with patients, families, and coworkers
- High level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with ill patients
