Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR RN)
  • Shift: Four 10-hour shifts per week (7:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
  • On-Call: Yes, 2-star call until 11 PM weekly and every 3rd to 4th weekend
  • Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd to 4th weekend
  • Number of ORs: 12
  • Floating: No floating between service lines or sister facilities

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 5 years in acute care operating room setting with strong skills in general, neuro, ortho, ENT, and GYN specialties
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted if they have broad specialty competency
  • Licenses: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license required
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) required (AHA or ARC only)
    • Radiation badge required (must be provided by agency; facility does not provide)
  • Trauma Level: Facility is a Level 3 trauma center

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Block Schedule: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
  • Local Radius: 60-mile radius rule applies
  • Locals: Local travelers are not accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift

  • Work Eligibility: Completed and accurate I-9 form and E-Verify attestation required
  • Identification: Copy of Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card required
  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Not required for this facility; diploma/transcripts preferred if education verification is pending
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
  • Employment Application: Complete application or resume required
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually for applicable units
  • Work History Verification: Not required for this facility

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination form
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (August 1 - April 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted, but declinations are not
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for all patient-facing travelers

Additional Notes

  • Radiation Badge: Required for OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, and Radiology travelers; must be obtained prior to starting patient care
  • Facility Specific Forms: Includes assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, system user agreements, and job description acknowledgment
  • Training Modules: Must be completed before orientation; failure to complete results in being sent home
  • Emergency Preparedness: Travelers should be prepared for possible emergency response duties during hurricane season
