Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Role involves day/evening rotating shifts combining 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts to total 40 hours per week.
- Shift options include:
- 06:30 - 17:00
- 06:30 - 19:00
- 10:30 - 20:30
- Schedule may include:
- Four 10-hour shifts (4x10s)
- Five 8-hour shifts (5x8s)
- Two 8-hour shifts and two 12-hour shifts (2x8s + 2x12s)
- Call responsibilities as needed, typically scheduled in 2-3/4-week periods, including evening, night, and weekend calls.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required.
- BCLS certification required.
- Required skills: experience with circulating and scrubbing in the operating room.
- EPIC electronic medical record system experience required.
- Preferred experience in neuro, thoracic, ENT, ortho, general surgery, plastics, urology, GU/GYN, free flaps, robotics (Da-Vinci), and oncology.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care on a day/evening rotating schedule.
- Assist with circulating and scrubbing during surgeries as needed.
- Maintain accurate patient records using EPIC.
- Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Certifications & Competencies Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certified (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required for certain units; check unit-specific requirements.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and OB units.
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Unit-specific requirement.
- NIH Stroke Certification - Required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units; check unit-specific requirements.
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam - Required prior to start.
- Unit-specific Competency Exams, including Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required annually for most RNs).
Licensure & Background Requirements
- Valid RN license verification required within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS verification required for RN licensure.
- Background checks including:
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start (including FBI and BCI fingerprinting).
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
- Fingerprinting: Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start, with specific code usage. New fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year.
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) or chest x-ray if positive, within 1 year of start. TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test renewal.
- Immunizations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed).
Additional Requirements
- 2 professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Education verification from accredited nursing programs required (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN).
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, compliance, and fraud/waste/abuse policies.
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually.
