Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- PCICU experience is strongly preferred.
- Candidates with NICU, Pediatric Stepdown, or Pediatric RN experience who have PICU floating experience will also be considered.
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend.
- Floating between units required.
- Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
- Flu vaccination is mandatory; no exemptions or declinations accepted.
- Local candidates within 75 miles are eligible for a local rate.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in the specialty (Registered Nurse).
Licensure
- Must have a current North Carolina or Compact nursing license.
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
Skills
- PCICU experience preferred; NICU, Pediatric Stepdown, or Pediatric RN with PICU floating experience acceptable.
Work Schedule
- Weekend shifts every other weekend required.
- Floating between units required.
Orientation & Training
- Bi-weekly orientation sessions.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training provided during orientation (valid for 2 years).
- Unit-specific competency exams required.
- Completion of online modules prior to orientation is required.
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- Required immunizations:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Polio vaccine or attestation
- Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no instant tests).
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually during flu season (October through March).
Background & Documentation
- Background check within 90 days of start, including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender, and education verification as applicable.
- Employment application and 7 years of work history required.
- Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months, including at least one supervisor.
- Facility-specific competency checklists (CBOs) must be completed within 3 weeks after start date.
- Must set up a Duke Guest Account prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems.
Additional Notes
- Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous Duke assignments may have some documentation requirements waived or accepted on file.
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and documentation requirements.
This position is suitable for first-time travel nurses and local candidates within 75 miles. Prior travel experience is not required.
