Job Opportunity: Cytotechnologist (Technologist)

Job Summary

The Cytotechnologist (CT) works within the Cytology Department following established guidelines. The role involves microscopic examination of cells to detect disease, particularly cancer, with a focus on procedures such as the Pap smear. The CT is responsible for technical laboratory procedures, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and implementing improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Determine acceptability of specimens according to guidelines
• Store specimens under appropriate conditions promptly
• Ensure reagents for processing and staining are properly dated, sufficient, and within expiration
• Perform processing and ordering functions accurately using computer systems
• Coordinate schedules of Cytology Assistant and Cytology Preparatory Technician to ensure coverage of specimen processing

Qualifications

• CT (ASCP) certification highly preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required
• Completion of one year of formal training in a school approved by the American Medical Association
• Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology required
