Monitor Tech - Tele (Travel Assignment)

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: Central Monitoring Unit (CMU)
  • Average Patients Monitored Daily: 336
  • Staffing: 65 total staff
  • Shifts:
    • Day Shift: 12 telemetry-competent staff
    • Night Shift: 12 telemetry-competent staff
  • Patient Ratio: 40+ patients per monitor tech
  • Equipment: GE Carescape system
  • EMR: Cerner Patient Observer (for Virtual Sitter duties)

Job Description

  • Monitor cardiac rhythms for a high volume of patients remotely
  • Analyze and interpret heart rhythms
  • Build end-of-shift reports within GE Carescape system
  • Add and discharge patients in the monitoring system
  • Communicate with floor staff via desktop phone and iPhone application
  • Maintain a running call log
  • Multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Cross-training provided for Virtual Sitter Attendant role

Schedule & Work Environment

  • 12-hour shifts:
    • Day: 06:45 - 19:15 (unit huddle at 06:53)
    • Night: 18:45 - 07:15 (unit huddle at 18:53)
  • Approximately 6 weekend shifts and 2 on-call shifts every 6 weeks
  • No cafeteria on site; staff must bring food or order from nearby restaurants
  • Work involves prolonged sitting with sit-to-stand desk options
  • Unit located about 8 miles from downtown Asheville; some hospitals monitored are over 1.5 hours away

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Monitor Tech or in telemetry
  • Prior travel experience working in remote monitoring required
  • Telemetry competency and ability to pass a basic cardiac rhythm test
  • Ability to analyze and interpret heart rhythms accurately
  • Good attendance record
  • Proficient typing and basic computer skills
  • Basic knowledge of iPhone operation
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under stressful conditions
  • Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)

Preferred Qualifications

  • CNA background
  • Cardiac nursing experience
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • ECG Board Certification
  • Previous experience with GE monitoring systems

This position is ideal for experienced telemetry professionals comfortable with remote cardiac monitoring and high patient volumes in a fast-paced, multi-hospital environment. Prior travel experience is mandatory.
