Job Opportunity: CICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Critical Care Unit (CICU) Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Nights, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 1-2 patients
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (12 shifts during contract)
- On-call: Possible low census on-call, but no additional call shifts required
- Floating: Yes, may float within scope to like units or sister facilities
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
- Licenses: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license required
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Preferred Equipment Experience: CRRT - Prismax
Work Environment & Facility Information

Scheduling & Hours
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
Important Notes
- Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June - November), with peak activity in August and September. Travelers should consider this before accepting assignments during this period.
Required Documentation & Compliance
Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/employment
- Must include SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
- Background check must be run within 90 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
Licensure Verification:
- Primary source verification required for active, unencumbered license
- SC RN license processing time: 3-5 weeks (longer for international education)
- Temporary "walk-through" license option available under certain conditions
NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
References:
- Proof of 2 clinical references required
- At least one reference must be from the same unit as assignment
Employment History: Last 3 clinical employers verified; attestation letters accepted only if verification attempts exhausted
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually; must confirm ability to meet physical demands without restrictions
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer
- TB Testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start; follow-up for past positives required
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
- Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required via RespSafety virtual questionnaire
Certifications & Competencies
- Additional Certifications (as applicable):
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required for MS and ER units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) except not required for ER RNs
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- NIH Stroke Certification required for ER and possibly other units
- Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology and other competency exams required as applicable
Facility Specific Requirements
- Orientation: Completion of online modules prior to start; failure to complete results in being sent home
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style color photo with solid light background required
- Employee Forms: Confidentiality, security agreements, contractor forms, and ID badge requests must be completed prior to start
- First Day Instructions: Provided after clearance; includes OurDay platform access for vaccine documentation and training modules
Additional Notes
- Radiation badge not required for this position
- Floating within similar units expected
- Locals may be considered but at a reduced rate (not relevant for healthcare workers considering the job)
This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of critical care experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a fast-paced acute care environment and are open to travel assignments.
