Job Opportunity: NICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Clinton, Maryland

Job Description

  • Position: NICU RN (Level II Special Care Nursery)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, 0700-1930
  • Responsibilities:
    • Consistent monitoring and maintaining stability of cardiopulmonary, neurologic, metabolic, and thermal functions in newborns (≥32 weeks gestation)
    • Assist with specialized procedures such as lumbar puncture and endotracheal resuscitation
    • Initiate, modify, or stop treatment per established protocols/orders
    • Float to Postpartum and Labor & Delivery units for neonatal care
  • Schedule Requirements:
    • Every other weekend required
    • Every other holiday required

Experience & Requirements

  • Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years NICU II experience required
  • CPAP experience required
  • Prior travel experience: Not required (first-time travelers with NICU experience accepted)
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • STABLE certification
  • Additional Certifications (may be required based on unit):
    • ACLS, PALS, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification (as applicable)

Licensure & Compliance

  • Valid State Nursing License required prior to start
  • Background Checks: Criminal background check within 90 days, including multi-state and federal searches
  • Drug Screen: Within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), updated annually
  • Health Documents:
    • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
    • Immunizations and titers: MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap, TB testing (IGRA or PPD) with follow-up as needed
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Fit Mask (N95) test within 9 months and updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)

Competencies & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (must score 80% or higher) within 3 years
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with specific scoring requirements (if applicable)
  • Color Blind Testing (online or in-person)
  • Annual Skills Checklist and Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

Additional Notes

  • Two positive supervisory references required, supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education and license information
  • Facility-specific modules (SITELS) must be completed prior to hire date
  • Photo for badge and other onboarding documentation required

This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level II NICU with a supportive team and requires strong neonatal nursing skills and certifications. First-time travel nurses with NICU experience are welcome to apply.
