Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical Tech (CST)
Location: Marshalltown, Iowa

Job Summary
The Certified Surgical Technologist II is a vital member of the surgical team, facilitating the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures. The role involves ensuring a safe operating room environment, proper functioning of instrumentation, and maximizing patient safety during procedures. The technologist may serve as first or second scrub person or assistant circulator within one specialty area.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence
- Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures in the assigned specialty.
- Understand the procedure being performed and anticipate surgeon needs.
- Participate in reviewing patient information for accuracy and preparedness (e.g., history & physical, consents, radiographic reports).
- Assist with circulating duties by obtaining additional instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery.
- Monitor operating room conditions and assess patient and surgical team needs continuously.
- Perform technical tasks in the second assisting role, distinct from first assistant duties.
- Enhance personal technical and clinical competence.
- Assist with orientation of new personnel and clinical instruction of students as assigned.
Quality of Care
- Maintain sterile field and ensure quality patient care during procedures.
- Demonstrate awareness of patient and personal safety, including knowledge of Standard and Transmission Based Precautions.
- Report any unusual occurrences promptly.
- Organize, clean, and maintain work areas, supplies, and equipment.
- Assist with inventory control and room turnover following established cleaning guidelines.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Graduation from a nationally accredited surgical technology program is required unless the candidate has 3+ years of recent operating room experience and is eligible for certification.
- Certification through a national certifying body is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Associate Degree or higher is highly preferred.
