Job Opportunity: MICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Specialty: Registered Nurse - Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 AM - 7 PM), dayshift
  • Holiday Rotation: Yes
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Yes, must float within scope to like units/sister facilities as needed (agency staff float first)
  • Local Radius: 60 miles
  • Local Travelers: Not accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years preferred (1 year minimum, but prefer 2 years)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Required (first-time travelers NOT accepted)
  • Licenses: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be active prior to start
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
    • BLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Additional Certifications (as applicable): PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, Chemo (not required for this location)

  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/employment
    • Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, international searches
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Not required for this facility, but diploma/transcripts preferred as placeholder if needed
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; SC RN license processing times vary (3-5 weeks for permanent, 24-48 hours for walk-through/temp license if eligible)
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Immunizations & Health Requirements:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if positive
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
    • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
    • COVID-19 Vaccines: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for patient-facing staff via RespSafety questionnaire
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
  • Work History Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified (not required for this facility)
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually for applicable units

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 4 hours for Florence campus
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required
  • Facility Acknowledgments: Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, Job Description, Systems User Agreement, Employee Info, and other facility-specific documents must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • COVID-19 Exemption: Religious exemption form available if requesting exemption

  • Block Scheduling: May be requested but not guaranteed
  • Radiation Badge: Required only for specific departments (OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, Radiology); not required for MICU
  • Travelers should be aware of potential emergency assignments during hurricane season (June-November), especially peak months August and September

This position is ideal for experienced MICU RNs with prior travel contract experience who hold or can obtain a South Carolina nursing license and meet the required certifications and health documentation.
