Job Opportunity: Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Stepdown RN
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 AM - 7 PM), day shift
- Holiday Rotation: Yes
- Patient Ratios: 1:4
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, must float within scope to like units/sister facilities as needed (agency floats first)
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)
- Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be active prior to start
Certifications Required
- ACLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross only)
- BLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross only)
Preferred:
- NIH Stroke Certification (as required by unit)
Additional Certifications (as applicable):
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- Chemo certification not required for this location
Note: Certifications must not expire within 30 days of assignment start. Renewals or scheduled courses required if close to expiration.
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Block Scheduling: Approval can be requested but not guaranteed
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis

- Charting System: Epic
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- Parking: Free
- Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Background Checks
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Must include: SSN Trace, SC Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, International searches
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
Licensure Verification
- Primary source verification of SC RN license required
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- Walk-through (temporary) license option available for SC RN license with 24-48 business hour turnaround (not available if background hits exist)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands (initial and annual)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
Other Requirements
- Respirator medical clearance annually for patient-facing travelers
- Proof of 2 clinical references
- Performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start
- Complete employment application/resume
- Skills checklist updated annually (as applicable)
- Radiation badge required for certain departments (OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, Radiology) but not for this position
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
- Upload COVID and flu vaccination documentation into OurDay platform
- Passport-style photo required for badge
- Signed acknowledgments: Assignment Acknowledgment, Code of Conduct, Employee Confidentiality Agreement, HR Policy Manual, Systems User Agreement, HIPAA Confidentiality Agreement
- Review and complete MINI orientation and acknowledgement
