Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (Contract)

• Level III NICU
• Teaching Hospital
• 180 beds total

Patient Types

• Acute cases: RSV, Entero-Rhino viruses (requiring high flow oxygen and suctioning), Flu, intubated ICU patients (medical or post-surgical)
• Chronic cases: Asthma, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)
• Respiratory services include nebs, MDI inhalers, chest physical therapy

Patient Ratios

• 1:1 patient assignment

Required Certifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• RRT-NPS preferred

Required Skills & Experience

• Registered respiratory care practitioner license
• Experience with pediatric patients
• Experience with invasive and non-invasive ventilation, including:

  • Servo ventilator
  • Inhaled nitric oxide (iNO)
  • Airway clearance techniques
  • Aerosol delivery
  • High flow devices

Support & Team

• Charge therapist often takes a patient assignment

Charting Systems

• EPIC
• Pyxis
• Alaris

Floating Assignments

• NICU
• PICU
• General care pediatric floors
• Pediatric ER (rotational)

Orientation

• 1 shift to learn unit flow

Scheduling

• Weekend rotation: every other weekend
• No on-call duties
• Holiday expectations: 1 summer holiday, 1 winter holiday
• Time off requires manager approval
