Job Description

  • Position: Emergency Department Registered Nurse
  • Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
  • Schedule Requirements: Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • Floating: No floating between units required
  • On-call: Not required
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for ER, must be current and valid (AHA only)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required for all RNs, must be current and valid (AHA only)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Required for all ED staff, must be current and valid

Additional Preferred Certifications

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Preferred but not required for ER

Licensure

  • Must hold a valid Washington D.C. nursing license
  • License must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start date

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (per DC mandate; medical and religious exemptions not accepted)
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Background check: 7-year criminal history, nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, and international searches as applicable
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug test within last 12 months (instant acceptable)
  • Physical exam: Initial and annual physical attesting ability to meet job demands (facility-specific form required)
  • Fit mask testing: Annual fit testing required
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (or declination form)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low/equivocal titers; declinations accepted only for medical/religious reasons
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination form
    • Varicella: Titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low/equivocal titers; declinations accepted only for medical/religious reasons
    • Flu vaccine: Required for all candidates; religious and medical exemptions accepted with approval
  • Education verification: Highest level of education must be verified through a primary source
  • NURSYS verification required for all RNs
  • Competency exams as applicable (medication/pharmacology, core competencies)

Work Environment

  • Trauma 1, teaching hospital setting
  • No on-call or floating duties
  • Cerner Sorian electronic charting system

Scheduling

  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • No block scheduling or floating between units
