Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Salina, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required (Pediatrics & Adult experience required)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)
- Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Weekends: Every other weekend required
- License: Kansas or Compact Nursing License required at time of submission
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required
- EMR: MEDITECH experience required, no exceptions
- Floating: Will float to 4 Med unit; may float from ED depending on needs
Unit Details & Patient Population
- Primary Unit: 40-bed medical-surgical unit
- Patient Types:
- All surgical patients except cardiac (Ortho, Neuro, Trauma, General Surgery, Urology)
- Pre/post-op patients
- General pediatrics
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6
- Float Unit: 40-bed 4 Med unit (Nephrology, Oncology, General Medical, Dialysis)
- Float Unit Ratio: 1:6
Skills & Competencies
- Use of Rapid Response/Code Teams
- Endocrine/Metabolic care
- Gastrointestinal care
- Genitourinary/Renal care
- IV therapy/Phlebotomy (starting IVs, etc.)
- Medication administration (Heparin, Insulin, PCA)
- Neurological/Psychiatric care (Pre/Post Neuro Surgery)
- Orthopedics (Ortho Trauma, Total Joint Replacements)
- Plastics (Surgical drains)
- Respiratory care (Chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, Oral Suctioning)
- Isolation Precautions
- Wound Care/Wound Vac
Uniform
- Unit scrub color: Navy Blue
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of I9 or Attestation
- Government issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
- Proof of E-Verify or Attestation
- Residency Declaration Form (if working on a compact license)
- Background Check: 7-year criminal check within a year of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification or Transcript/Diploma (proof of highest degree)
- FACIS Level III screening required within 30 days of start
- State License Verification (Primary Source Verification)
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- Performance and Internal Evaluations if applicable
- References: 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel positions
- Skills Checklist updated annually for applicable units
- Employment Application/Resume
Certifications Required (as applicable)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for multiple units including Med Surg, ER, ICU, etc.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required for all travelers
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for ER, Pediatrics, PICU
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – Required for Labor & Delivery, NICU, Nursery, Mother-Baby
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy) – Required for Oncology RNs
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Required
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – Required for Labor & Delivery
- NIH Stroke Certification – Required annually for all RNs except Birth Center, Labor & Delivery, NICU
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Physician statement within 30 days of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions
- N95 Fit Test: Completed within 12 months or onsite during orientation
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (current within 10 years, required for Birth Center/NICU staff)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 12 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or completed 2-dose vaccine series
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, completed vaccine series, or declination form
- Varicella: Positive titer or completed vaccine series
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen including marijuana within 30 days of start (SAMHSA certified, MRO reviewed)
- Flu Vaccine or Declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
- COVID-19 Vaccine or Declination accepted; exemptions allowed with declination form
Additional Notes
- Prior employees of this facility will not be considered
- Mileage within 100-mile radius reviewed case-by-case for approval
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with Meditech EMR proficiency and pediatric and adult care experience who have completed prior travel contracts and meet the certification and licensing requirements.
