Job Description
The Cardiac Device Technician is responsible for both in-person and remote monitoring of cardiac devices including single, dual, and CRT pacing systems, implanted cardiac defibrillators, pacemakers, and implanted loop recorders. The role involves collaboration with the Cardiac Device Clinic Team to ensure excellent patient care.
Daily Responsibilities
- Perform in-person and remote cardiac device checks/interrogations
- Log into remote monitoring device websites and analyze new device transmissions
- Complete remote transmission reports
- Communicate alarm conditions, heart rhythm abnormalities, or device function changes to cardiologists promptly
- Document patient interactions and device reads in Epic
- Provide patient education related to the Device Program
- Schedule in-person and remote follow-up visits
- Troubleshoot and reprogram Medtronic, Saint Jude Medical, Boston Scientific, and Biotronik pacemakers and ICDs
Additional Duties
- Maintain organization of the device clinic and follow-up schedule
- Collaborate with Electrophysiology Clinic Nurses and Manager to track device patients
- Assist with billing and streamline clinic processes to maximize throughput and reimbursement
- Work closely with Device Clinic Nurse and Electrophysiology Physician staff to ensure appropriate care and follow-up
Required Experience and Certifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience performing remote implanted cardiac device monitoring and technical assistance
- Experience interrogating and programming pacemakers or defibrillators
- CCDS (Cardiac Device Specialist Certification)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Valid government-issued photo ID required on first day
- Background check within 6 months prior to start (includes education and work history verification, international searches if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days prior to start
- Education verification required (primary source verification)
- National Sex Offender Search within 30 days prior to start
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen including methamphetamines within 3 months prior to start
- Physical exam per Aya Healthcare standards (within 1 year of start)
- Fit mask test required within 1 year prior to start (N95 or equivalent)
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine or signed declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- TB questionnaire
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella immune titers or vaccines with signed declinations if applicable
- Hepatitis B vaccine series or signed declination
- Varicella immune titer or vaccines with signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (deadline 12/01/2025)
Certifications Required
- BLS (AHA Provider only, traditional AHA certification)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support, AHA Provider only)
- PALS and NRP certifications may be required depending on role specifics (AHA/AAP only)
Additional Facility Requirements
- Candidates must be fully available for compliance needs up until start date
- Professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (Compass modules) prior to start
- References: Two manager or supervisor references from the last 24 months required
- Employment application with at least 7 years of work history including city and state for each position
- Competency exams with a required score of 85% or higher
