Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Stepdown Unit (8NE)

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Unit: 8 North East (8NE) Stepdown Unit
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• 24 private rooms with advanced monitoring capabilities
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3, supported by clinical associates
• Part of a Level 1 Trauma Center
• Patient population includes:

  • Brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic fractures, complex trauma
  • Respiratory compromised patients (BiPAP management, blood gas interpretation, tracheostomies, chronic vent dependency)
  • Reconstructive plastic surgery with microvascular free flaps
  • Advanced diabetic management (Type 1 and Type 2)
  • General surgical interventions and complex wound management
• 11 rooms equipped with in-ceiling lifts for early patient mobilization
• Opportunities for skill enhancement for both seasoned and new graduate nurses

Requirements & Skills

• Certifications: BLS and ACLS required
• Experience: Strong assessment skills and adaptability to a fast-paced environment
• Ability to titrate drips such as cardizem, labetalol, amiodarone (no sedative drips)
• Basic EKG interpretation skills required (techs read strips)
• Experience with respiratory equipment: BiPAP, CPAP, and chronic/non-weaning vents
• Must be able to work in a trauma and med/surg stepdown setting

Staffing & Support

• Unit charge nurse and 24/7 hospital house supervisors available
• Nurse aides typically staffed at a ratio of about 3 aides per 24 patients
• Telemetry monitoring with teley techs in a central location
• Video monitoring for patient safety

Scheduling

• Shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (night shifts)
• Weekend requirement: Yes, typically every other weekend depending on staffing
• Holiday requirement: Yes, on a rotational basis
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating: Rotational basis with other unit staff, including travelers

Additional Information

• Dress code: Royal blue scrubs
• Unit-specific orientation with clinical preceptor for 8 Northeast
• Must have a valid driver’s license with an address outside 50 miles from the facility

Summary

This is a 13-week contract for an RN position in a high-acuity stepdown unit within a Level 1 Trauma Center. The role requires strong clinical skills, experience with complex trauma and respiratory patients, and the ability to work night shifts with weekend and holiday rotations. Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
