Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Summary
- Provide professional perioperative nursing care based on current standards and practices (AORN).
- Care for patients from pediatric through geriatric populations in the holding area, operative suite, and post-operative settings.
- Responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care during surgical interventions.
- Collaborate with surgical team and maintain sterile field and patient safety throughout procedures.
Work Schedule
- 8-hour shifts with rotating schedules (06:30-15:00, 09:00-17:30, 11:00-19:30).
- Weekend coverage and on-call are voluntary.
- 40 hours per week.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Completion of an accredited Registered Nurse program required.
- BSN preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of prior Operating Room experience required.
Licenses & Certifications
- Registered Nurse license in Pennsylvania.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to function effectively as a team member and liaison between patients and staff.
- High level of mental and emotional tolerance, professionalism, tact, and sound judgment when interacting with patients, families, and coworkers.
- Knowledge of perioperative nursing practices and standards (AORN).
- Accountability for maintaining current knowledge, skills, and competency in perioperative nursing, including trends, scientific advances, biomedical equipment, and ethics.
Additional Information
- If candidates do not meet preferred qualifications, an in-house 6-month Operating Room course will be provided and must be started upon hire.
- Responsibilities include developing and updating patient care plans, ensuring availability and functionality of surgical supplies and equipment, maintaining sterile fields, applying aseptic and surgical techniques, and providing preoperative education to patients and families.
Summary
This contract role is ideal for experienced Operating Room RNs with at least 2 years of OR experience, licensed in Pennsylvania, and certified in BLS and ACLS. The position offers a structured schedule with rotating shifts and voluntary weekend/on-call coverage, with opportunities for additional training if needed.
