Registered Nurse (PCU) - Columbus, Ohio

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Schedule & Shift

• Weekdays with occasional weekends and rotating holidays
• 3x12 hour night shifts
• Must be willing to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Unit & Patient Care

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Patient ratio approximately 1 nurse to 5 patients
• Skills required: IV starts, telemetry monitoring
• Familiarity with Epic system for documentation

Experience & Certifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in PCU (highest required)
• ACLS and BLS certification required (AHA only, Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred (not required)

Requirements & Competencies

• Must complete Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam prior to start
• Unit-specific competency exam required
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts)
• NIH Stroke Certification may be required (check unit specifics)
• State nursing license verification required within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification required for RNs
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually

Background & Compliance

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Education accreditation verification required (accredited nursing program)
• Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
• 2 professional references required (at least 1 from leadership)
• Employment application and skills checklist required

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually
• MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low titer
• Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series or signed declination
• Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed
• Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
• COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Facility Policies

• Must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policy
• Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
• Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually
• Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
