Job Opportunity: Stepdown Cardiac Registered Nurse

Location: Huntington, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Description

• 20-bed step-down unit with all private rooms
• Patient ratio typically 4:1, may go up to 5:1 depending on staffing
• Patient mix includes pulmonary (pneumonia, COPD, BiPAP/CPAP), cardiac (a-fib, heart failure), neuro (stroke), GI (bleed), and stable post-surgery patients at higher risk of instability
• Unit accepts a combination of adult med-surg, telemetry, and step-down patients based on bed availability
• Critical drips administered include Amiodarone, Esmolol, Insulin, Lasix, Cardizem, and Nitroglycerin

Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse
• Experience: Minimum 1+ year nursing experience required (highest stated requirement)
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS) required for all RNs (any certifying agency accepted)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Compliance & Documentation

• Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during hours of service
• Background checks: 7-year criminal check within 1 year of start, updated annually; includes all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• Additional background screenings: EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines (MMR boosters may pend at start)
  • Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters may pend at start)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (declinations not accepted without approved exemption)
  • COVID seasonal vaccine required; declination form required if opting out
• Drug screening required within 30 days of start, must include a comprehensive panel of substances
• Facility-specific orientation and education modules must be completed within 1 week of start
• N95 fit test completed onsite at orientation (male candidates must be clean-shaven)

Additional Notes

• Candidates must complete confidentiality agreements, attestation forms, and IT access agreements prior to start
• Religious and medical exemptions for flu and COVID vaccines require facility approval before start
• Proof of 2 clinical references required
• Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the system for over 1 year
