Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) – IMC Stepdown Unit

Location: Weirton, West Virginia
Unit: IMC - Stepdown (30 beds)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: IMC Stepdown / PCU
• Required Experience: Minimum 2 years of Stepdown/PCU nursing experience
• Prior Travel Experience: Not specified (assumed not required)
• Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-6 depending on patient acuity
• Shift: 7 AM – 7 PM (day shift), 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (day shift)
• Scheduling: 4-week schedule with some self-scheduling flexibility
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
• Holiday Requirement: May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
• Call/Standby: None required
• Floating: Travelers can float to any inpatient unit; travelers are first to float
• Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Cardiac patients
• Post pneumonia
• Post cath lab
• Seizures
• Alcohol withdrawal (ETOH - CIWA protocols)
• Pacemakers and more

Clinical Responsibilities

• Comfortable with cardiac monitoring and titrating drips (Yes, RNs required to titrate drips)
• Common drips: Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Heparin, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Angiomax
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips; print strips, perform measurements, identify rhythms
• ADLs: assisting with bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning
• Vital signs monitoring, blood sugar checks, answering call lights
• Troubleshoot respiratory equipment as needed (RT manages treatments and equipment like BiPAP, Airvo, trachs)

Support Staff & Resources

• Charge nurse on each shift (day shift charge usually does not take patient assignment; night shift charge takes lighter assignment)
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available for ADLs and basic care
• Hospitalist on call at night; no nocturnist coverage for entire hospital
• Respiratory Therapist assigned to unit, available 24/7
• Telemetry/Monitor techs available 24/7

Orientation

• 2 days general orientation
• 1 day preceptor orientation
• Orientation includes 12-hour night shifts and weekends as scheduled

This position is ideal for experienced Stepdown/PCU nurses comfortable with cardiac care, telemetry, and titrating drips, seeking a 13-week contract in West Virginia.
