Job Opportunity: RN - Med Surg

Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Work Environment

• Unit: 7th Floor, Trauma Med/Surg
• Number of Beds: 34
• Patient Ratios: 6:1
• Staffing Support: Tech support available on day and night shifts; Unit secretary from 7am-7pm
• Equipment Used: IV Pumps, Telemetry, SCDs, Continuous Pulse Oximetry Machines, Feeding Pumps, PCA, EKG machines, bladder scanner, iMobile communication technology
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling: 3 shifts per week (12-hour shifts), including 2 weekends (4 shifts) per 4-week schedule
• Floating Policy: Contract labor floats first; rotation used when multiple contract staff are scheduled
• Dress Code: Navy scrubs (tops and bottoms)

Required Qualifications

• License: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) required
• Experience: Minimum 2 years in Med/Surg specialty (highest required experience)
• Skills:

  • Med/Surg experience
  • Ability to prioritize care and multitask
  • IV starts
  • Basic wound care
  • Maintenance of surgical drains, nasogastric tubes, and chest tubes

Patient Care Expectations

• Provide attentive and compassionate care to patients and family members
• Conduct bedside shift reports
• Ability to make personal connections with patients and include them/family in the plan of care
