Job Opportunity: Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool RN
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Float pool RN position covering Pediatric Critical Care units
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM), totaling 36 hours/week
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend plus holiday rotation
- Patient Ratios: 1:2 or 1:3
- RN will float within scope to all Pediatric units including CVPICU, NICU, PICU
- Block scheduling may be accommodated with manager approval, depending on unit needs
- Local radius: 60 miles; local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric ICU experience (highest required years of experience)
- First-time travelers accepted if they meet experience requirements
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Licensure & Certifications
- South Carolina RN License or Multi-State/Compact RN License required
- Certifications required (American Heart Association - AHA only):
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Preferred experience with ECMO and CRRT (not mandatory)
Work Environment & Additional Notes
- Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- During hurricane season (June-November, peak in August-September), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams
- Travelers should consider this before accepting or extending assignments during hurricane season
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9 form)
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
- Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Background checks including:
- SSN Trace
- County and state criminal checks (7 years)
- Sex Offender Registry
- National Criminal and FACIS 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification (diploma/transcripts preferred)
- NURSYS verification for RN license
- Annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive history
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccination/booster documentation
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Color blind testing prior to start
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Competency exam required
- Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start
Additional Certifications (As Applicable)
- ACLS: Not required for pediatric units but may be required for other units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification recommended
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) not required for ER RNs
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) not required for NICU, required for L&D if applicable
Important Considerations
- Candidates must renew any certifications expiring within 30 days of start prior to assignment
- All licensure and certification hits must be approved by the facility
- Radiation badge required only for specific units (not applicable for this pediatric float pool role)
- Travelers must upload COVID vaccination records or complete a declination form (COVID vaccines highly preferred but not required)
