Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Details

• Shift: Rotating AM/PM (07:00-19:30 / 19:00-07:30)
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Start Date: February 23, 2026, or ASAP
• Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend
• Holiday Requirement: As scheduled
• Floating: Required to float to MSICU as needed
• On-Call: 24-32 hours required per rotating 8-week schedule
• Patient Ratio: 1:2
• Unit Beds: 6
• Average Daily Census: 3-5 patients

Experience Requirements

• Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years CVICU experience required
• Travel Experience: First-time travelers accepted; prior travel experience not required

Licenses & Certifications Required

• Maryland RN license
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Certification
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred
• OCN and TCNN preferred but not required

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Post-operative cardiac surgery (CABG, MVR, AVR)
• Cardiac surgery re-admissions / ICU bounce-backs
• Structural heart procedures (TAVR, mitral clips)
• Pre-op patients on hospital intensivist list
• STEMI/NSTEMI
• Cardiogenic shock
• Inari procedure

Special Unit Details

• Management of patients in first 6 hours post-op with:

  • 2 or more inotropic medications
  • Hemodynamic instability
  • Active cardiac output management
  • Extreme coagulopathy
  • Open chest
  • OHS/Impella support
  • ECMO (perfusionist on-site)
  • CRRT (dialysis on-site)
  • IABP
  • Care at surgeon's discretion

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background checks including 7-year criminal search, education verification, and state-specific exclusions
• Drug screening (negative 9 or 10 panel with fentanyl) within 30 days prior to start
• Physical exam including Latex screening within 1 year
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
  • Tdap (for units working with children or ED)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray updated annually
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccinations
  • Hepatitis B titer or declination (series not accepted)
• Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year prior to start
• Two supervisory references within 1 year
• Employment history verification for 5-7 years
• Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, badge photo, and job description acknowledgment

Additional Notes

• Floating to MSICU may be required
• On-call responsibilities on a rotating schedule
• Local travelers accepted at a reduced local rate (details not provided)
