Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Telemetry
Location: Boise, Idaho
Unit: Telemetry (Floors 3 & 7)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Telemetry Nursing with a cardiac and general telemetry focus
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of experience in telemetry nursing
- Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required
Unit Information
- Floors Covered: 3rd Floor (20 beds), 7th Floor (35 beds)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Staffing:
- Charge nurse on each unit (usually does not take patient assignments)
- Crisis & Resource nurse available in-house
- CNAs: 3 on 3rd floor, 5 on 7th floor (typical CNA ratio 1:8 depending on census)
- Remote telemetry techs on 3rd floor; nurses expected to read and interpret telemetry strips twice per shift
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- 3rd Floor: Cardiac focus including post-op procedural patients, post-op day 1 open heart, TAVRs, ablations, post caths, pacemakers, and medical telemetry
- 7th Floor: General telemetry including post procedural overflow, CHF, sepsis, electrolyte imbalances, post strokes, and more
Required Skills & Certifications
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Experience:
- Must have post-procedural cardiac experience (cath lab, ablations, open heart)
- Preferred PCU and Stepdown experience
- Ability to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips accurately
- Drip Titration:
- Heparin and insulin (insulin experience not required; training provided)
- Common drips: set rate cardiac gtts, amiodarone, cardizem, dopamine, dobutamine
Equipment & Support
- Respiratory Therapy available on each floor for high respiratory needs (high flow, BiPAP, CPAP)
- RNs may assist with breathing treatments if needed
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Shift: 7am - 7pm
- Schedule: Typically made 6 weeks in advance; flexibility required to fill gaps
- Shift Limits: Max 5 shifts in a row; scheduler tries to group night shifts
- Weekend Requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Days: Sat/Sun, Nights: Fri/Sat)
- Holiday Requirement: May be asked to work some holidays, but not all
- Call/Standby: Not typical; more likely to float
- Floating: Travelers are first to float and may be floated to any Medical-Surgical, MS-Tele, or Tele unit within the hospital or sister facilities in Meridian and Nampa
- Orientation: 2 shifts (1 on 3rd floor, 1 on 7th floor)
- Dress Code: Any color scrubs allowed
