Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) – Neuro Med-Surg Acute
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Acute (Stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, neuroscience, some medical overflow)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Neuro Med-Surg Acute
- Beds: 54 (2 semi-private)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day shift: 1:4-5
- Night shift: 1:5-6
- Nurse Aids/Patient Care Tech Ratios:
- Days & Evenings: 1:9-10
- Nights: 1:10-12
- Telemetry: House-wide telemetry with Phillips monitors; nurses do not read their own strips
- Respiratory Equipment: High flow oxygen for stable COVID patients (rare); RNs troubleshoot only
- Charge Nurse: Present 24/7, generally does not take patient assignments unless short-staffed
- House Supervisor: Present 24/7
Required Certifications & Skills
- BLS (AHA)
- NIHSS
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Prior travel experience required (no first-time travelers)
- Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit required
- Experience with titrating drips, specifically heparin drip based on PTT (heparin gtt experience required)
Job Expectations & Scheduling
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday both shifts)
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Float in rotation with general unit staff; if floated outside general unit, only assigned tasks within competency and with trained nurse support
- Orientation: 2 days unit-specific orientation with educator and preceptor
- Dress Code: No scrub color requirement; tattoos must be covered; no piercings except ears
Additional Notes
- RNs are required to titrate drips
- Drug-free campus; negative drug screen required
- Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius
- Orientation hours (12 hours) are non-billable and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
