Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) - Acute Care 4 (Med Surg)

Location: Albany, Georgia

Position Details

• Specialty: Acute Care Med Surg
• Required Experience: Minimum 1 year in Acute Care Med Surg setting
• Contract Length: 17 weeks (interpreted from 17)
• Shift: Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM
• Weekend Requirement: None (unit closed on weekends)
• Holiday Requirement: Only if holidays fall during the week
• Floating: Possible float to Med Surg Unit if census is low

Certifications & Licenses

• Georgia RN License required
• BLS Certification required
• NIHSS Certification required

Unit & Patient Information

• Unit Size: 14 beds
• Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Staffing: RNs and LPNs
• Charge Nurse: Present; may take patient assignments
• Patient Care Techs: 1 CNA on unit
• Common Patient Types:

  • Admission Hold Patients (patients in ED awaiting bed)
  • Overflow patients under Medical Observation status
  • Discharge Pending Patients (awaiting transport, DME, medications, or dialysis)
• Patients NOT on unit:

  • Those requiring IV drips like Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, dobutamine, insulin, or vapotherm
  • Inmates
  • Patients with active infections requiring isolation
  • PACU or MedOps patients

Scope of Care & Skills

• Basic Med Surg nursing skills required
• Some cardiac skills preferred
• Medication administration: IV and PO for Admission Hold Patients; PO only for Discharge Pending Patients
• Care includes medication and pain control, blood sugar monitoring/treatment, nourishment per diet, complex toileting assistance, and oxygen administration via nasal cannula
• RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Common drips on floor include heparin and lasix
• No telemetry monitoring or reading of strips required by RNs

Orientation & Dress Code

• Unit-specific orientation: Typically 3 shifts
• Scrub colors: Caribbean Blue top & bottom OR White top & Caribbean Blue bottom OR all white top/bottom

Additional Notes

• Strict 75-mile radius rule enforced for travel
• No call or standby requirements
• No tele/monitor techs on unit
• Respiratory equipment: Nasal cannula only; RNs troubleshoot as needed

This position is suitable for RNs with at least 1 year of acute care Med Surg experience who hold the required certifications and prefer a weekday schedule without weekend shifts.
