Job Opportunity: RN - IMC (Intermediate Medical Care)

Location: Portland, Maine
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Role: Registered Nurse (RN) in Intermediate Medical Care (IMC)
  • Specialty: General Intermediate Level of Care
  • Shifts: Day (7am-7:30pm) and Night (7pm-7:30am)
  • Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36
  • Weekend Hours: As needed (36 hours)
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Float Requirements: Will float to appropriate similar units at IMC level or lower as needed

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in specialty (IMC)
  • Must have IMC experience
  • Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment at med-surg level or higher (prior travel experience required)
  • IMC travel experience preferred

Education & Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • Completion of mandatory onboarding education modules

Unit Information

  • Unit Beds: 12 beds on IMC side (36 beds total on R9)
  • Patient Ratios:
    • IMC patients: 1:3
    • When floating to med-surg: 1:4-5 (days), 1:5-6 (nights)
  • Equipment: Telemetry, BIPAP, Hi-Flow O2, Insulin drips for DKA protocol
  • EMR System: Epic

  • Respiratory conditions
  • Medical telemetry patients
  • Some surgical patients
  • Sepsis, DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis)
  • Altered Mental Status
  • Failure to Thrive
  • Respiratory Failure
  • Various acute on chronic medical conditions
