Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
Unit: ICU (18 beds, all private rooms with negative pressure capability for COVID patients)

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Experience

• Minimum 1 year of critical care experience (higher value confirmed)
• Prior travel experience preferred (not explicitly required)

Certifications Required

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• NIHSS

Licensure

• West Virginia nursing license required

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:2
• CRRT/Organ Donation patients 1:1 ratio; may stretch to 1:3 during overflow/stepdown
• Average daily census: 13 patients
• Common patient diagnoses: Sepsis, Pneumonia, COVID-19, CHF, COPD, DKA, Overdose, Renal Failure, Neurosurgeries (lumbar drains, ventriculostomies), General Surgery, occasional MI, Vascular patients

Skills and Competencies

• Competent with CRRT, IABP, ventilators
• Skilled in post-code care and therapeutic hypothermia
• Proficient with vasoactive medications, sedation, and paralytics
• Responsible for titrating all critical care drips within ordered parameters
• Perform care and removal of central lines

Staffing and Support

• Charge Nurse available Monday-Friday day shift (may carry assignment during high census)
• 1-2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) depending on census and staffing
• Intensivist coverage 7am-7pm daily with residents
• Hospitalist coverage overnight 6pm-6am daily
• Respiratory Therapist coverage 7am-7pm daily in ICU; RT covers critical care 7pm-7am
• RT equipment includes ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow oxygen

Monitoring and Technology

• Phillips monitoring system; ICU staff responsible for monitoring and interpretation
• Remote telemetry techs provide backup monitoring

Scheduling and Shifts

• Shifts: 7:00am-7:30pm and 7:00pm-7:30am
• Self-scheduling and block scheduling allowed if unit needs are met (block scheduling not guaranteed)
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW), shifts may include Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon
• Holiday work may be required depending on unit needs

Additional Requirements

• Rare call or standby requirement
• Floating required to Stepdown and MedSurg units as needed
• Dress code: Royal blue scrubs; scrub jackets allowed but no hoodies or sweatshirts
• Orientation: 2 shifts of general/floor orientation plus EPIC education before starting
• General education competencies must be completed before arrival

Notes

• Pharmacist available on unit 7:00am-4:30pm daily
• 12-hour night shifts and weekend scheduling as assigned
