Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - NICU
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Description
- Minimum 2 years of experience required as a Registered Nurse.
- Work primarily night shift.
- Experience in Level III NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit).
- Care for Surgical, ELBW (Extremely Low Birth Weight) babies, NAS (Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome), and Preemies.
- Must be STABLE certified.
- Certifications required: NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support).
- Floating required: must be able to float to Pediatrics, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), and Full Term Nursery.
Required Certifications & Competencies
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider Certification or equivalent
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- STABLE certification
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - if required by unit
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (if required by unit)
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) - must pass within allowed attempts
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- State License Verification (Primary Source Verification required)
- NURSYS Verification (for RNs)
- NIH Stroke Certification (if required by unit)
- CHEMO, TNCC, EFM certifications if applicable (verify per unit)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical Exam within 1 year of start, confirming ability to meet essential job functions.
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year of start.
- TB Questionnaire updated annually.
- Immunizations:
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella (boosters if negative).
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination.
- 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters if negative).
- Drug Testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
- Fit Mask (Respirator Fit Test): Required for new contracts; testing done onsite.
Background & Documentation
- Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
- Education verification and accreditation confirmation required.
- Employment application and work history verification for last 7 years (2 workplaces).
- Professional references required (2 within 2 years for travel acute care).
- Unit-specific skills checklist required.
- Facility-specific documents such as consent to release information, floating policy, time and attendance policy must be completed and signed prior to start.
Additional Notes
- Candidate must be prepared to float between NICU, Pediatrics, PICU, and Full Term Nursery units.
- Stroke and Trauma CEUs may be required depending on unit assignment; must be completed or updated annually.
- EKG competency and pass/fail testing are time-sensitive and must be prioritized to avoid assignment cancellation.
- Candidate must comply with all facility-specific policies and documentation requirements prior to start.
This position is ideal for experienced NICU Registered Nurses comfortable with high-acuity neonatal care and flexible floating assignments.
