Job Summary

Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients using the nursing process within established standards and practices.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult specialists, and adjust nursing care as needed.
• Perform head-to-toe assessments and re-assessments per policy.
• Deliver individualized, age-specific care supporting hemostatic regulation, hemodynamic monitoring, and physiologic functioning.
• Maintain accurate nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, and responses.
• Treat patients and families with respect and dignity; maintain confidentiality and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs.
• Function as a patient advocate.
• Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care.
• Involve patients and families in care planning and update plans daily.
• Develop and evaluate teaching plans for patients and families.
• Supervise and allocate work to other healthcare staff.
• Assist physicians with procedures.
• Respond promptly to workload changes to maintain productivity and efficiency.
• Participate in performance improvement activities.
• Serve as a preceptor to orient new employees.
• Engage in ongoing professional development through education and training.
• Maintain and operate patient care equipment; ensure supply stock and equipment functionality.
• Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and ability to function under stress.
• Meet all department-specific competencies.
• Perform housekeeping and assist with patient transportation as needed.
• Adhere to dress code, infection control, safety, and personnel policies.
• Serve as team leader and role model for staff.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Competency in specialized cardiac nursing procedures and equipment, including:

  • Cardiac Monitoring
  • Care of patients Pre/Post CABG and Interventional Cardiac Procedures
  • Maintaining and pulling sheaths
  • Use of Angioseal/Vasoseal devices
  • Administration and titration of specialized medications and drips
  • Operation of ACT Machine
  • Sedation and pain management
  • Chest tube care and insertion
  • TPN/PPN management
  • KODA system
  • Central lines, IV therapy, IVADD, and infusion therapy
  • Information management systems (e.g., Boomerang)
