Job Opportunity: RN - Med Surg (Travel)

Location: Richmond, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Unit: 5Atrium Ortho Joint Spine (Orthopedic Med Surg)
  • Patient Population: Post-operative hip, knee, spine, and other orthopedic surgery patients
  • Unit Size: 25 beds
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 5-6 patients per nurse
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; every other weekend required; no guaranteed block scheduling
  • Floating: May float to similar med surg units

Unit Environment & Equipment

  • Purpose-built unit, just over 1 year old
  • Ample general nursing equipment for orthopedic post-op care
  • Documentation system: Meditech
  • Staffing: 4-5 nurses and 1-3 patient care technicians per shift; unit secretaries available 7am-7pm

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse License
  • BLS Certification (required)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Med Surg specialty (post-operative patient care experience preferred)
  • Positive attitude and strong patient care focus
  • Meditech experience preferred but not required
  • No advanced skills or specialty certifications required

Patient Care & Unit Policies

  • Bedside shift report and safety rounding (1 hour day shift, 2 hours night shift)
  • Use of AIDET communication framework for all patient interactions
  • Emphasis on treating patients with courtesy, respect, and making personal connections
  • Unit follows hospital policies and guidelines; specifics reviewed at start

Dress Code

  • Navy scrubs
  • Any closed-toed shoes

Additional Notes
