• Unit: First Assist
• Location: Operating Room (1st floor)
• Number of ORs: 11
• Staffing: Approximately 8 full-time equivalents (FTEs) when fully staffed; currently 2.9 FTEs hired
• Shift Type:

  • Day Shift: Certified Surgical Assistant only
  • Night Shift: Certified Surgical Assistant only, covered with call
• Equipment: Operating Room equipment
• EMR: Not specified

Job Requirements

Licensing & Certifications

• Must hold a license to practice as a surgical assistant in Virginia (distinct from surgical technician)
• BLS certification required
• OR First Assist Certification required

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience in the specialty (Certified Surgical Assistant / First Assist)

Skills & Qualifications

• Candidates without the required license and certifications will not be considered
• Preferred candidates are quick learners, self-starters, and easy-going
• Typical procedures include Orthopedics, Spine, and General (bariatric) surgeries

Work Environment & Policies

• Hospital-laundered scrubs provided
• Unit is covered by call for after-hours and weekends; call coverage depends on staff availability
• No floating required
