Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) – Neuro Med-Surg Acute

Location: Peoria, Illinois

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Neuro Med-Surg Acute
• Beds: 54 (2 semi-private)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day shift: 1:4-5
  • Night shift: 1:5-6
• Nurse Aids/Patient Care Tech Ratios:

  • Days & Evenings: 1:9-10
  • Nights: 1:10-12
• Telemetry: House-wide telemetry with Phillips monitors; nurses do not read their own strips
• Respiratory Equipment: High flow oxygen for stable COVID patients (rare); RNs troubleshoot only
• Charge Nurse: Present 24/7, generally does not take patient assignments unless short staffed
• House Supervisor: Present 24/7

Schedule & Requirements

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday both shifts)
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• Call/Standby: None
• Floating: Float rotation with general unit staff; if floated outside general unit, only assigned tasks within competency and with trained nurse support

Certifications & Skills Required

• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA)
  • NIHSS
• Experience:

  • Must have level 1 trauma experience
  • Must have prior travel experience (no first-time travelers)
  • Must have prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit
• Skills:

  • RNs required to titrate drips
  • Heparin drip experience required (titrated based on PTT)

Orientation & Policies

• Orientation: 2 days unit-specific orientation with educator and preceptor
• Dress Code: No scrub color requirement; tattoos must be covered; no piercings except ears
• Drug Screen: Negative drug screen required (drug-free campus)
• Local Placements: Accepts local placements within 50-mile radius

Additional Notes

• OSF Call Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty
• Non-billable Orientation Hours: 12 hours (guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation)

Summary:
This is a 13-week contract for an experienced Neuro Med-Surg RN with level 1 trauma and prior travel experience. The role requires strong neuro skills, heparin drip titration, and the ability to work 12-hour shifts with every other weekend and holiday coverage. Orientation and support are provided, with a focus on a drug-free work environment.
