Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)
Location: Salina, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Weekends: Every other weekend required
License: Kansas or Compact License required at time of submission
Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- Pediatric and adult experience required
- Prior travel experience NOT accepted (first-time travelers not accepted)
Unit and Patient Population
- Primary unit: Medical/Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
- Floating to 4 Med unit and possibly Emergency Department (ED) as needed
- Patient types include:
- Surgical patients (except cardiac)
- Orthopedics, Neuro, Trauma, General Surgery, Urology
- Pre/post-op patients
- General pediatrics
- Nephrology, oncology, general medical, dialysis (on float unit)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
- Unit size: 40 beds
Skills and Competencies
- MEDITECH EMR experience required (no exceptions)
- Use of Rapid Response/Code Teams
- Endocrine/Metabolic care
- Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary/Renal care
- IV therapy/Phlebotomy (starting IVs, etc.)
- Medication administration (Heparin, Insulin, PCA)
- Neurological/Psychiatric care (Pre/Post Neuro Surgery)
- Orthopedics (Ortho Trauma, Total Joint Replacements)
- Plastics (Surgical drains)
- Respiratory care (Chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, Oral Suctioning)
- Isolation Precautions
- Wound Care/Wound Vac
Dress Code
- Unit scrub color: Navy Blue
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Proof of I9 or Attestation
- Government issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
- Proof of E-Verify or Attestation
- Residency Declaration Form (if working on a compact license)
- Background Check: 7-year criminal check within a year of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification or Transcript/Diploma (proof of highest degree earned)
- FACIS Level III screening required within 30 days of start
- State License Verification (Primary Source Verification)
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- Performance and internal evaluations if applicable
- References: 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel positions
- Skills Checklist updated annually for applicable units
- Employment Application/Resume
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Physician statement within 30 days of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions
- N95 Fit Test: Completed within 12 months or onsite during orientation
- Immunizations and Titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (current within 10 years, required for Birth Center/NICU staff)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer within 10 years or completed 2-dose vaccine series
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, completed vaccine series, or declination form
- Varicella: Positive titer or completed 2-dose vaccine series
- Drug Testing:
- 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 30 days of start (SAMHSA certified, MRO reviewed)
- Flu Vaccine or Declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
- COVID-19 Vaccine or Declination accepted; medical and religious exemptions allowed with declination form
Additional Notes
- Prior employees of this facility will not be considered
- Floating may include coverage in Emergency Department depending on needs
- Ratio and patient acuity require strong clinical skills and flexibility
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with MEDITECH EMR proficiency, pediatric and adult care experience, and the ability to work night shifts with weekend rotations in a fast-paced MS/Tele environment. Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
