Job Opportunity: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Details

• Employment Type: Contractor
• Contract Length: 14 weeks

Facility Overview

• Level III Trauma Center
• Level III NICU
• Primary Stroke Center
• 72 beds total, with 22 beds in the ED
• COVID-19 vaccine required

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Room (ER) experience
• First-time travelers are welcome (no prior travel experience required)

Patient Population

• Pediatric to Geriatric patients (mostly geriatric)
• General ED cases including chest pain, abdominal pain, falls

Patient Ratios

• ED RN to patient ratio: 1:3-4 (both day and night shifts)

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Preferred Certifications

• CPI/MOAB (Crisis Prevention Intervention/Management of Aggressive Behavior)
• ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)

Required Skills

• General ED skillset including:

  • PIV (Peripheral Intravenous) starts
  • Blood cultures with proper technique
  • Chest tube management
  • Code blue response experience
  • Triage skills

Preferred Skills

• Arterial lines
• Critical care experience
• Central line placement
• Thoracentesis
• Charge nurse experience
• Pediatric experience

Unit Support

• Charge nurse (occasionally takes patients)
• 2 CNAs/techs sharing the unit
• Paramedic coverage mid-shift only
• Phlebotomy primarily RN responsibility; phlebotomy staff available for inpatient holds
• Hospitalist coverage 24/7
• Mid-level providers available 8:00 AM to midnight
• Respiratory therapist coverage 24/7
• Telemetry monitoring at bedside and nurse’s station (no tele tech for ED patients; tele tech for ED holds only)
• Unit secretary available 24/7

Charting System and Equipment

• EPIC electronic health record system (required)
• Alaris infusion pumps
• Pyxis medication dispensing system
• Belmont rapid infuser (preferred for ED RNs)

Orientation

• At least one shift orientation to learn unit flow

• Scrub color: Any color allowed; no denim, camouflage, or logos
