Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: 4 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts (7 PM - 7 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed
  • Charting System: EPIC experience required
  • Floating: Required to float within skillset
  • Locals: Registered Nurses within 75 miles are not accepted (radius rule)
  • First-Time Travelers: Accepted

Licenses & Certifications Required

  • Active New York Single State RN license (NY is not Compact)
  • ACLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (as required by unit)
  • Other certifications as required by unit: PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM (if applicable)

Clinical Skills Required

  • Telemetry and Stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC)
  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Oxygen administration (nasal cannula), non-invasive airway management
  • Management of cardiac drips (no titration)
  • Blood product administration
  • Central and peripheral line care/management
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy
  • Isolation precautions

Unit Details

  • Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
  • Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
  • Common Diagnoses: Long-term pulmonary patients, ENT surgery, surgical patients requiring stepdown care
  • Scrub Color: Navy blue and white combinations

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Required Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1 year in specialty based on typical PCU requirements
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government Issued Photo ID required
  • 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
  • Education verification from primary source required
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
  • References (2 within 3 years) required for agency only
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Work history verification required
  • State-specific documents including NYS Nurse Aide Registry and criminal background fingerprinting may be required depending on unit

Additional Notes

  • Call-off policy allows up to three canceled shifts during the 13-week contract without penalty
  • Special scheduling requests must be submitted at time of application
  • Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing
