Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical Float Pool)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7:30 AM), totaling 36 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: Minimum 3-4 weekend shifts per schedule
- Holiday Rotation: Required
- Float Assignment: Will float to medical-surgical floors at main hospital and Ashley River tower
- Patient Ratios: May vary depending on unit assignment
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty

- License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license

- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted

- Education Verification: Required (diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder)
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; must be active and unencumbered
- NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Immunizations & Health Requirements:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titers or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), medical/religious exemptions accepted (no declinations)
- COVID Vaccines: Not required but highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Competency Exams: Medication and general competency exams required
- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Completion of orientation modules and OurDay platform training required before start
- Clear, passport-style photo required for badge (frontal view, solid light background, business casual attire)
- Parking permit available with a $20 registration fee for garage use (additional fees may apply for other parking)
- Hurricane Season (June - November): Staff may be assigned to emergency response teams; consider this before accepting assignment
Additional Notes
- Facility may require additional certifications depending on unit (e.g., PALS, TNCC, CHEMO)
- Radiation badge required for certain specialties (not applicable for this RN float pool role)
- IV Therapy certification may be required for select LPNs (not applicable here)
This position is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of experience in medical-surgical nursing, comfortable working night shifts and weekends, and willing to float between units. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
