Job Opportunity: Med Surg RN (IU 4 Center)

Employment Type: Contractor
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of experience in Med Surg
• First-time travelers are welcome (no prior travel experience required)

Patient Population

• Surgical patients (mostly bariatric, bladder, orthopedic including total knees and hips)
• Patients with diabetes, kidney and liver failure, cardiac issues, stroke, respiratory conditions

Patient Ratios

• Day shift: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
• Night shift: 1 nurse to 5-7 patients

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Skills Required

• Medical-Surgical Unit (MSU) skillsets
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Experience with post-operative patients
• Wound care
• Chest tube management
• IV drips including cardiac, heparin, and insulin drips

Unit Support

• Receptionist available 24/7
• CNA support: 1:6-8 (days), 1:8-10 (nights)
• Charge nurse with partial assignment
• Phlebotomy for peripheral draws
• Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
• Hospitalist available 24/7
• Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy available during the week

Technology & Equipment

• EPIC electronic health record system
• Alaris infusion pumps
• Pyxis medication dispensing system
• Centralized telemetry monitored by tele tech

Orientation & Scheduling

• 1 day orientation on the unit
• Weekend rotation every other weekend
• Up to 2 weeks time off can be approved
• No on-call responsibilities
• Holiday work expectations: 1 summer holiday and 1 winter holiday
