Job Opportunity: RN - ICU (MSICU)

Location: San Antonio, Texas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Facility Overview

  • Unit: MSICU (7C)
  • Facility Type: Acute care hospital with a broad range of specialties including cardiology, cancer care, emergency medicine, neurosciences, maternity care, gynecology, and orthopedics
  • Documentation System: Meditech
  • Shift Times: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
  • Weekend Schedule: Rotating
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Floating: All travelers are required to float within the hospital

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) in ICU
  • Minimum Years of ICU Experience: 2-3 years (higher value applied)
  • Licensure: Active Texas RN License (Temporary licenses NOT accepted)
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in MICU & MSICU settings
  • Familiarity with Meditech charting and order entry

Procedures Commonly Performed on Unit

  • Chest tubes
  • Tracheostomies
  • GI scopes
  • Intubations
  • Central lines and arterial lines
  • NG tubes
  • Foley catheters
  • Dressing changes

Unit Policies & Guidelines

  • Badge in/out required for each shift
  • Full 30-minute lunch break mandatory
  • Punctuality is critical: Clock-in time is 6:38 AM/PM; after 6:45 is considered tardy
  • Dress Code:
    • Navy scrub top and pants; navy or white scrub jacket
    • Clean, healthy nails
    • Neat, clean hair with no extreme styles or colors
    • Facial hair must be clean and neatly trimmed
    • Tattoos should be covered whenever possible
    • Visible piercings other than ears are prohibited

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required for this role
  • Strong critical thinking skills are essential
