Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) - IMCU

Location: Kankakee, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Department: Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)
• Beds: 22 private beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5 (days and nights)
• Common Diagnoses: Cardiac conditions, open heart day 3, craniotomies, cardiac cath (radial and femoral), Watchman device, Zephyr valve for COPD, pacemakers, tracheostomies, continuous CPAP, BiPAP, chest tubes, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
• Ventilator Use: None
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
• Telemetry: RNs read telemetry; centralized tele tech support available
• Charge Nurse Role: Team Lead during the day (does not take patients); charge nurse on nights/weekends/holidays (does take patients)
• Nurse Aids: Yes, ratio 1:10 (assist with blood sugars, vitals, ADLs)
• Floating: Required to float to ICU (PCU level patients) or med-surg (full assignment)

Shift & Scheduling

• Shift Hours: 5 PM to 5:30 AM
• Scheduling: Managed by unit manager; block scheduling accommodated when possible
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• Call/Standby: None

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Illinois RN license (must have in hand)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• Valid Driver’s License (required for submission)

Experience & Skills

• Specialty: IMCU RN
• Required Years of Experience: 1 year (ICU experience is a plus but not required)
• Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required; first-time travelers are welcome
• EPIC experience: Required
• Ability to titrate drips (e.g., Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro for BP, insulin, heparin, dopamine/dobutamine with renal dosing)

Orientation

• One 12-hour shift orientation specific to the unit

Additional Notes

• Scrub Color: Caribbean scrubs
• Local candidates within 50 miles may be considered for local placement

This position is ideal for an RN with at least 1 year of experience, comfortable with cardiac and intermediate care patients, and skilled in titrating drips. EPIC experience and Illinois licensure are mandatory. Prior travel experience is preferred but not required.
