Description

Job Opportunity: Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Responsible for overall nursing practice in Labor & Delivery, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for childbearing women (adolescents to middle adulthood), neonates, and families.
  • Support current staff in transition from Meditech to Epic electronic health record system.

Essential Functions

  • Assess patient and family developmental levels, health status, and learning needs.
  • Perform initial assessment and stabilization of neonates.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care.
  • Teach self-care and newborn care to patients and families.
  • Support family functioning and promote understanding of family health dynamics.
  • Identify and intervene with vulnerable patients and families at risk.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare disciplines for treatment and referrals.
  • Promote a safe environment for reproduction, growth, development, and recovery.
  • Assist patients and families in coping with women's health issues and childbirth.
  • Maintain professional knowledge, skills, and competency in care of women and infants.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Registered Nurse program.
  • Current Pennsylvania RN license.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers, renewed every two years.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification, renewed every two years.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, renewed every two years.
  • Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and liaison between patients and staff.
  • Demonstrated emotional tolerance, sound judgment, tact, sensitivity, and professionalism.

Work Environment

  • Minimal supervision from Director, Women & Children’s Services.
